Ronald Mcdonald House and Art

Having a seriously ill child in hospital is one the most difficult times for parents and families. A House filled with art offers families a unique sense of home.  With your support, the new Ronald McDonald House in Wellington, opening in October 2012, will feature a collection of more than 100 works of art by leading New Zealand artists facilitated by the NZ Academy of Fine Arts (NZAFA).

For over 500 families each year, Ronald McDonald House provides a free home-away-from-home, suited to their practical and daily needs. Complementing this will be a unique art collection that will delight, challenge and entertain families and children, bringing reassurance when it is needed most.

Arthouse will open a door to the world of art for all who visit. This new home-away-from-home for 34 families includes family rooms and apartments, a communal kitchen, children’s art room and gymnasium.

This collaborative fundraising between the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts and the Ronald McDonald House, Wellington will enrich the lives of children and their families throughout the lower North Island, Nelson and Marlborough districts, and Wellington’s longest-serving cultural institution as it seeks to support young, up-and-coming artists.

The New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts has supported New Zealand artists since it was established 130 years ago. Funds raised from this venture will also contribute to the Academy's new programme for emerging artists - offering opportunities to exhibit at an early stage in their career.
