Peter McIntyre

Governor General Award 1985

 
The Academy encouraged the Government to appoint war artists, and Peter McIntyre was appointed the official war artist in 1941, a position he held for four years, with the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force based at Maadi near Cairo. He was on the Academy Council from 1959 to 1965.
 
He won the Kelliher Prize in 1959, The National Bank Award for watercolours in 1960, and the prize for oil painting in the 1962 Hay’s Art Competition. His work ‘Frosty Morning, King Country’, oil was purchased by the Academy from the 1963 Annual Exhibition.
