Helen Casey
Helen Casey
After drawing at an early age, Helen graduated from Wellington Polytechnic’s School of Design in 1992. In 2007 she completed a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Design studies. As a freelance illustrator, her work has been widely displayed in a variety of media and her work is constantly evolving.
Helen was born on the island of Cyprus, spending her early years in the Western Isles of Scotland, and New Zealand is the largest island she has called ‘home’. She particularly enjoys making work reminiscent of Maori and Celtic design. These range from colourful and highly textured mixed media paintings to extremely detailed drawings.
While particularly fascinated with birds, the sea, and marine life, Helen is also driven to comment on the human condition. In her work, art bears metaphoric testament to the created world manifested both in nature and the human environment.
