Exhibition Proposals

ACADEMY GALLERIES ARE AVAILABLE TO ANYBODY

Proposals are viewed and selected by the exhibitions committee, comprising the exhibitions manager and artist members of the Academy Council. Each has a strong knowledge of and an involvement in the contemporary visual arts sector.

1.       Why do I need to put in a proposal?

Anyone who would like to stage an exhibition at The Academy Galleries needs to put in a proposal.

Our aim is to provide a carefully balanced selection of high quality exhibitions, to be culturally diverse, and include a fair representation of emerging and established artists. We want to incorporate a range of mediums, including (but not limited to) painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, glass and jewellery.

In order to meet these conditions and uphold our responsibility to our members and supporters, we need to be selective about which exhibitions appear at the gallery. This is why a proposal is the first step for any artist or organisation wishing to exhibit at The Academy Galleries.

2.       What should I include in my proposal?

Required:
·          Images of your work
·          A brief CV detailing your education and exhibition history
·          A summary of the work’s conceptual content, if appropriate (describe what the work is about)
·          A physical description of the work you would like to exhibit (approximate dimensions, medium etc)
·          An estimation of resources that would be required should the exhibition be approved, including a rough cost analysis of transport and materials if required
·          Contact details
Optional:
·          References

Note: you may not have completed or even started the work you are proposing to exhibit at the time you put in the proposal – that’s ok!

3.   How far ahead do you plan your exhibitions calendar?

We try to programme our exhibitions at least one year in advance, although in some circumstances spaces may be available at short notice.

4.      Do I need to be an Academy Member to hire a gallery for an exhibition?

No, but being a member has advantages, including sceduling priorities and discounted rates.

5.   Where should I send my proposal?
