The New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts was largely set up in 1882 to provide a vehicle for a National art Collection. In the years to 1967 over 500 works of art were gifted to the Nation.
There is currently quite a small collection of works that have been purchased over the intervening years, and this is in the process of being de-acquisitioned. Find out more about the sale of these works.
