From the beginning the Academy has been run by artists for artists and the primary focus of Academy activity is the year round exhibition program, featuring new work by established and emerging artists from throughout Aotearoa. Our commission rates are some of the lowest in the country, with submission of artworks open to all.

The Academy represents a number of arts interests and offers a rnage of opportunities, from a variety of memberships, the buying or selling of artworks, touring exhibitions, to Awards and sponsorships. There are many opportunities for skilled volunteers looking for an entry to the Museum Sector.
If you would like to show new work or projects in a light-filled gallery space in Wellington's waterfront precinct, check out LightSpace, our permanent hireage gallery priced to accommodate emerging artists.
The gallery is overseen by a Council along with our Curator, Business Manager and Exhibitions Manager. We also rely on the help of a small but invaluable team of volunteers. Find out more about Academy People.
