Dear supporter

At the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, our number one priority is the health and wellbeing of our gallery visitors and staff.

With this in mind, we wanted to let you know what we are doing to keep everyone as safe as possible during this time.

We have reviewed our hygiene protocols, and these comply with the World Health Organisation and Ministry of Health guidelines.

Our galleries remain open and you’re welcome to visit to support New Zealand artists showing their works. We have cancelled large group gatherings or in gallery talks.

Extra cleaning and hygiene

We are cleaning high touch surfaces such as door plates, door handles, stair handrails, EFTPOS terminal, and the shop countertop every two hours, and our staff are regularly and frequently washing their hands.

Our cleaning contractor has been engaged more frequently to ensure all our facilities are clean.

Guidelines for our staff

  • If a staff member feels unwell we’ll request they go home or stay home
  • Self-isolation is supported and enforced in line with Ministry of Health guidance for any affected staff
  • Regular updates are being provided for staff on Ministry of Health and company guidelines
  • Physical contact is restricted e.g. no shaking hands and we’re maintaining a safe social distance

Access to the gallery is on the following basis: -

Do not enter…

  • if you are unwell, are experiencing a sore throat, cough, shortness of breath or a fever, or think you may have been exposed to COVID-19
  • if you have travelled internationally in the past 14 days; or
  • if you have had close contact in the past 14 days with someone who is suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19.

When in the gallery…

  • maintain a minimum one metre distance from our staff and other visitors
  • wash your hands thoroughly after using our toilets
  • cough or sneeze into a tissue, your elbow, or your clothing, not your hands.

The advice from the Ministry of Health on how to protect yourself remains the same

  • Regular, thorough handwashing is your best protection.

We’re encouraging everyone to follow MOH guidelines for your own personal protection.
